It’s been a long time that the entry Tibet permit system has put into practice. This is decided due to the special geography and political environment in Tibet. Because most of the foreigners don’t know the history of Tibet and the connection with China inland for a thousand years history, they may assist few Tibetan people who want Tibet separated from China. So Chinese government has to tell the real goal of foreigners who want to visit Tibet. Chinese government will without any condition issue the permit to those who have only travelling goal to Tibet and are organized as a tour group. But for those applicants who have political goal they can not get the permit. PTT will be pleasure to help deal with Tibet permit for you, if you are the only tourist welcome by Tibetan people and government. The procedure is pretty simple. After we get copy of your passport with China visa, there’ll be three working days to issue the permit. Please note: if you are foreign diplomats and journalists, you have to apply the permit through Foreign Fairs Office of Tibet Government instead of Tibetan Tourist Bureau. Who will have to get entry Tibet permit to visit Tibet?
As the government rule: for those who are not Chinese passport holders-foreign tourists, Taiwanese and oversea Chinese (exclusive of the residents from Hong Kong and Macao who have Home Return Certificate) need to apply entry Tibet permit issued by TTB through three working days before they visit Tibet. Foreign tourists and Taiwanese are not allowed to be FIT. They must be organized by a local agency as a tour group to visit Tibet.
The following persons who need to apply Tibet permit:
None of Chinese passport holders-Tourists from Taiwan China;
None of Chinese passport holders-foreign passport holders and oversea Chinese;
Chinese government has cancelled the limit of 5 pax minimum for foreign tour group so one person can be organized as a group to visit Tibet. But they still need to get Tibet permit.
Please note: Tourist from Hong Kong and Macao who have Home Return Certificate or Pass port issued by local government or travel permit (card) for residents of Hong Kong and Macao to Chinese mainland(issued before 1998, 10 years expiry)DON’T need Tibet permit to visit Tibet.

Procedure for applying Tibet permit
You need to fax us the copy of your passport or email us the scanned passport and advise us your real job. The rest things are on us. Our fax# is +86-28-85108251.
Friendly notice: if you are applying to Chinese embassy for Chinese visa in some country, don’t tell them you want to visit Tibet. Otherwise, you’ll offer the TTB permit before you get visa. The procedure is pretty complicated and will be last a long time. So what you need to do is apply for normal Chinese visa before apply to us for Tibet permit. This will be simple and fast.
If you need to entry Tibet from Nepal, except you have already got the visa of China, you must apply a group visa for Tibet travel at Chinese embassy in Kathmandu. The same time you get the group Tibet visa, you’ll get the Tibet permit.
How to use Tibet permit?
After you have Tibet permit, we’ll arrange the Tibet tour. You can only follow the route and duration you have applied. And you can NOT add more places to go in Tibet and can NOT delay to depart Tibet.
Tibet permit can only be used once. And you can NOT lend it to some one else.
You can copy the permit but you must keep the original copy for checking.
Important Issues about Tibet Travel Permit
Question 1: How much is Tibet permit?
Answer: First of all, please note that we never SELL a permit. We only help you abtain a permit from the local authority. As mentioned above, the cost for a permit includes the charge by the government and the service fee by PTT. Usually this cost is included in the quotation for a package tour.
Question 2: How long can I get Tibet Permit?
Answer: Generally it needs three days to get the Tibet permit if you could supply the full necessary documents. But if it needs another 3 days (or more) to Express Deliver the permit.
Special Notice:
PTT can not offer the only service for Tibet permit. If you want to put yourself in the maximum freedom in Tibet, we can offer you the simple service of “ Tibet permit + tour guide + hotel “. But you must make the tour route in Tibet for applying the permit. You can’t change the route unless there will be some happen human can not be against it.
Here is a note from Lonely Planet:
"Lhasa PSB will not issue travel permits to individuals and will direct you to a travel agency. Agencies can arrange a travel permit to almost anywhere but only if you book a Land Cruiser, driver and a guide."
We have noticed that some travel agency only offers foreigners the copy of Tibet permit. This is dangers to have only copy of Tibet permit without original one. You may probably be sent back as a real story as follows.

We would like to tell you a sad story about Tibet Permits.
In June 2007, two Germans went to Tibet by land with public transportation. The day after their arrival, they planned to visit the famous landmark of Tibet,the Potala Palace.
At the entrance of the Potala Palace, the staff of TTB (the Tibet Tourism Bureau) asked them for a Tibet travel permit. However, they did not have a permit.
As a result, the two Germans were escorted to the airport by the TTB and flown to Chengdu with the earliest flight possible. None of their nice Tibetan dreams came to pass...
