The most obvious feature of Tibet climate is the large temperature difference between day and night. The maximum temperature of a day can reach 28°C (This is also the highest temperature in Tibet, won’t be exceeded.), but the minimum may fall to 10°C. Winter in Tibet is not as cold as what people think because of its long sunshine hours, and strong ultraviolet radiation may be a major challenge for tourist.
Inadaptability to climate in Tibet is not because of high altitude sickness, but more often due to the relatively dry weather. From late October to next May, almost little rainfall you may come across during this period. Snowfalls are mainly focus during November to next February. However in some places such as Ali region and some mountain region over 4,000 meters, occasional snow may appear sometimes during April and May.
Lhasa Region:
Located in the semiarid monsoon zone of Tibet Plateau, annual sunlight 3,000 hours, Tibet is also known as "The city of Sunlight".
With the average elevation of 3,650m, there is thin air, low temperature and great difference between day and night in Tibet. Maximum temperature of Tibet is 30℃, the minimum of which is 16°Cbelow zero. It is dry in winter and spring, often windy, the duration of frost-free is 100 to 120 days. Annual precipitation is 200 to 510mm, prone to occur from June to September and more often wet in nighttime. In contrast, from March to October, it is warm and humid, which makes it the best time to visit Tibet.
